Lexington machine is now an organ donor?

Hey, no worries. It has not been slated for salvage (parted out) to create other Art-o-mat® machines. It is still intact and kerplunking away on location at the historic Kentucky Theatre. However, the charitable mission of this machine is now to support the Mighty Wurlitzer restoration project. Our host, Miki Wright, has arranged for all profits from Art-o-mat sales to aid in this restoration.

Basically, the Kentucky Theatre opened during the silent film era and had all of the luxuries of the day and age. This included a huge screen, air conditioning (via ice blocks and fans) and a high end organ with a talented accompanist.

Over the decades, the theatre went through the typical struggles fittingly portrayed on the cover of the 1981 Styx album “Paradise Theatre”. But, thanks to the Kentucky Theatre Group, the theatre was eventually restored and reopened in 1992 with the primary focus to show innovative films, present live music and host private events. Returning the original Wurlitzer organ will be another great step in this theatre reclaiming it’s full splendor.

Sincerely,

AIC
