Artist Highlight – Louisville Fiber Friends
Categories: News
The Louisville Fiber Friends formed in 2009 for the purpose of making art for the Artomat. The initial group consisted of artists Judy Goodwin, Alyce McDonald, Karen Roethke and Debbie Shannon. They have made thirteen sets of work for Artomat – three “Rocks in a Box” – felted and beaded rocks; one set of vintage button pins and one set of original drawings. Suzi Zimmerer joined the group in 2015 to help create a second set of drawings. To date they have completed 9 sets of drawings.
While making art together has been fun, they are most proud of what they have done with the proceeds. All of the profits from the sale of their Artomat work have been loaned to fiber artists from around the world. These loans have gone to women and men working in fiber in 44 countries through KIVA. Since the repaid loans are reinvested, they have been able to make 115 loans!! If you want to know more about this wonderful organization, you can find them at www.kiva.org.
